Espoo City Theatre: O’DD

Espoo Cultural Centre - Kulttuuriaukio 2, 02100 Espoo

Race Horse Company’s O’DD is a contemporary circus show inspired by sci-fi. It examines transformation and human ways of being under powerful external forces. Virtuoso trampolinist Rauli Dahlberg’s ambitious solo performance transports us to a futuristic and dreamlike world of contemporary circus.

The performance ponders human desire to improve through reincarnation: are we ever a clean slate, a tabula rasa, given that from the moment of our birth, we exist on a deeply human continuum?

This discipline defying spectacle is choreographed by acclaimed dance choreographer Jarkko Mandelin. Mandelin’s ultra-physical signature works organically combine martial arts with contemporary dance, promising fireworks on stage.

The show’s wordless movement and object manipulation are amplified by its dreamlike soundscape, created by a true pioneer of live looping Miro Mantere, and the compelling audio-visual experience is further enhanced by Jere Mönkkönen and Eero Alava’s lighting design.

Race Horse Company is one of the finest contemporary circus companies in Finland. The RHC is renowned for its rough-and-ready style that is equal parts physical, uncompromising, and technically sophisticated. Internationally widely successful, the company’s shows are based on aesthetics of chaos, black humour, and surprise.
