What is a cultural environment?


Heritage landscapes, archaeological heritage and built environment form an entity called the cultural environment. Human activity and interaction with nature in different ages is visible in our environment. The value of the cultural environment is in its historical and regional stratification. A well-kept cultural environment adds to the well-being of people, creating a distinctive character for the region and increasing the comfort of the area as well as its attractiveness.

Who cares about the cultural environment?

The Cultural Environment Program is a tool for authorities, residents and communities to develop the local cultural environment and to plan its care. Its purpose is to define the way in which the cultural environment of the region is cared and used. The cultural environment program serves as a basis for decision-making and authority work on the cultural environment. 

In designing the program, the expertise of various fields is combined with the residents and the users of the area. The Cultural Environment Program helps to strengthen the cultural environment and the local identity.

Who work on the Cultural Environment Program ESKO?

Espoo's Cultural Environment Program is executed in cooperation between different sectors. The project is executed by the Espoo City Museum and the Technical and Environment and Education sectors. The values ​​and perspectives of local and regional users are incorporated into the program.
